Shunkin returns to Tokyo

On top of its return to London’s Barbican and a tour to Taiwan, Simon McBurney’s Shunkin is coming back to the Setagaya Public Theatre in December. Starring Eri Fukatsu (fresh from her Best Actress award at the Montreal World Film Festival), this is the third staging of the production in Japan after its acclaimed debut in 2008 and revival in 2009.

Though it was greeted by a mixed critical response in the UK, McBurney’s international Complicite troupe is almost an unstoppable world-wide force these days. It is currently presenting its globe-trotting production of A Disappearing Number in the West End, though it lost its first two performances due to the set being held up in France en route to London. Fingers crossed there are no similar issues for December’s performances!

Shunkin, December 2 to 11 at Setagaya Public Theatre.

Tickets on sale from October 17.
