The countdown to this autumn’s F/T (Festival / Tokyo), Japan’s largest performance festival, started yesterday at a press conference held in Ikebukuro’s Myonichikan.
In attendance were many of the artists taking part in October and November: Shiro Maeda, Norimizu Ameya, Ikuyo Kuroda, Akira Takayama, Spain’s Roger Bernat, Masataka Matsuda and Motoi Miura. The line-up for the rest of the Festival includes European heavyweights like Christoph Marthaler and famous Japanese dancer Saburo Teshigawara.
As with previous festivals the program is notably dominated by documentary theatre, with some new writing and invited prominent continental practitioners.
The theme for this year’s event is “disrobing theatre”, though if you are seeking titillation you will likely be disappointed!
